Peruvian painter Christian Bendayán is a well known international advocate for Amazonian art. Along with curators Gustavo Buntinx and Giuliana Vidarte, he inaugurated the Peruvian pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale and brought a reflection on the representation of Amazonian art to one of the biggest contemporary art showcases.

Through AMAZONISTAS he enthusiastically brings together the works, personal testimonies and reflections of 23 artists who derive their source of inspiration from the Peruvian Amazon. Of different generations, backgrounds and disciplines, these artists collectively find a creative refuge in the intensity and fragility of the jungle. This publication was supported by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture and calls to all to protect the invaluable cultural heritage of the Amazonian region.

Artists included are Armando Williams, Roberto Huarcaya, Musuk Nolte, Elena Valera “Bewan Jisbe”, amongst others.
